Clearing the Dungeon

Reading From the Sacred Texts

  • Forgotten RPGs
    • TheMuff1nMon - One of my favorite forgotten RPGs is: Yugioh The Falsebound Kingdom. Instead of the traditional card games, this switches the formula up and turns it into an Real time strategy RPG where you control different units and engage in turn based strategy combat. Critically not well received but a game I loved back on the gamecube
    • WTNAndrew - It’s not a question but Lunar Silver star story is so good and sadly forgotten. Should have bought it on psp when I had a chance
    • Sky_Katchr_Gaming - Fire Emblem Blazing Blade seems forgotten. I haven't heard too much about it for the last couple of years. Pretty much Fire Emblem GBA through Wii eras don't hear about much.
    • cwagmire - Baten Kaitos is the only card RPG I've ever liked. It's pretty niche in that regard but I loved it before I realized who Monolith Soft was
    • Barry Carenza @HawkHellfire - So many great rpgs that have been forgotten. One of my favs growing up was 7th saga. Rarely see anyone ever talk about it
    • Adam (A.J.) Sandoval @AnimeGamingLift - My favorite forgotten RPG is definitely Legend of Legaia. Absolutely criminal that the series didn’t continue after Legaia 2.
    • Blaze Knight - Forgotten RPGs for me: Nostalgia and Final Fantasy the 4 Heroes of Light both come to mind. But easily my favorite "Forgotten RPG" is Jade Cocoon, literally never hear anyone talk about this Monster Collecting RPG with it's monster fuse mechanic, the ability to fight as your player character, a great story, all wrapped up in a fascinating world.
    • grrouchie - Planescape: Torment doesn't get enough love any more
    • Yarden @yardenangel - This game is the complete opposite of forgotten, but I think Garret may have still forgotten about it and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to remind him. Garret! Play Final Fantasy 6! He’ll probably say “it’s in the backlog” All I’ll say is I hope he’s enjoying Golden Sun
    • ngachacha - My favorite forgotten RPG is Shadow Hearts: Covenant from the PS2. Nobody knows what I’m talking about when I’m gushing about the game’s Judgment ring and combo system and dark setting.
      • But my question for the show:  after we finish Nintendo’s best game of 2022, what games would you recommend to fill the void that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will leave in our RPG-loving hearts? Or is this just a futile attempt and as gamers, we shouldn’t try to replicate the same exact experiences?
